DISCOVER THE NATURE OF ÖLAND
Öland offers fantastic excursion destinations
– from Stora Alvaret on southern Öland to Trollskogen in the north.
THE SERIOUSNESS
Alvarsmarken with its unique flora and fauna has been designated a world heritage site by the UN agency Unesco. Historically, the treeless alvar land has been used as pasture, which was necessary to prevent overgrowth. In early summer, you can enjoy lots of orchids and, if you're lucky, you can catch a glimpse of the characteristic bird, the heather piper.


ESTELLE'S WALK
A nice walk in Borgholm's castle forest. The road leads to Solliden Castle's northern entrance. It has now been renamed Princess Estelle's walk.
ÖLAND'S RAUKAR
For a long time, the coral reefs were pressed together under high pressure and the Öland limestone was formed. Byrum is Öland's best-known and finest rauk area. Read more here.


BLUE VIRGIN
Visit the mythical and mysterious Blue Virgin. This fantastic island is located between Byxelkrok on Öland and Oskarshamn on the mainland. Here you can read more about Blue Virgin and how to get there Blue Virgin.
THE WILD FOREST
At the far end of Öland's north-eastern headland is the nature reserve Trollskogen, an old coniferous forest characterized by grazing that really lives up to its name. Gnarled pines and old rough oaks grow here. The magical feeling is enhanced by all the ivy that climbs on the ground and over tree trunks. Read more here.


NATURUM OTTENBY
Ottenby is a 995-hectare nature reserve on the southern tip of Öland that has been nature protected since 1970. The reserve consists of lake lands, pastures and shrublands with gorse and hawthorn and Ottenby grove. Read more here.
COASTAL ROAD ÄLEKLINTA – SANDVIK
A scenic stretch of coast that has in many ways become one of Öland's biggest attractions. Along the road you can find boathouses, quarries, burial grounds and remains from the stone industry.
